Celebrities who have dealt with acne

Hey acne-prone girlies,

One of the most difficult parts of dealing with acne is the feeling that you are completely alone. The truth is, that that isn't the case at all! Thankfully, more and more celebrities are coming forwards to speak about their experiences with acne, which is normalising the experience of having a skin condition slowly but surely. In case you are feeling a bit lonely in your acne journey today, here is a collation of five celebrities that inspired me on my acne journey, and a link to a Pinterest board with pictures of some more celebrities and their acne experiences, so you can be reminded that breakouts happen to everyone!

  1. Kendall Jenner famously came forward and spoke about her difficulties with acne during school. I remember watching a YouTube video on Kylie Jenner's channel, where Kendall reminds Kylie of how she used to ask her if her skin looked okay every day before school - an experience I'm sure many of us know well. Kylie admits that she always said yes, even when it wasn't necessarily what she thought. It's a sweet reminder that the people who really care about us are much more invested in our wellbeing, than what our skin looks like. Big up Kylie!
  2. Another celebrity who inspired me on my acne journey is Sofia Richie. In 2019 she did a Beauty Secrets Vogue Interview which you can find on YouTube. Within it she appears bare-faced, and talks about her struggles with getting clear skin. It's refreshing to see a celebrity be so open about her experience with acne, and interesting to note that Sofia mentions that she has been seeing a dermatologist since she was 13, but is still experiencing breakouts! Even celebrities can struggle to get clear for years and years - good to know. Sofia looks absolutely beautiful in the video, which is a nice reminder that breakouts do not take away from your natural beauty in any way.
  3. If you're into podcasts, you may be familiar with Alex Cooper from the podcast Call Her Daddy. Alex featured on On Purpose with Jay Shetty, and spoke about how difficult it was growing up with acne and how it affected her confidence growing up. Alex explains she was bullied severely for her skin, and her experience was extremely relatable for me. I found it helpful to hear how Alex coped with her situation by pouring herself into her passions. It's inspiring to see that people who have become extremely successful, may have experienced acne at some point in their lives. Alex didn't let her skin hold her back, which is what I love most about the podcast episode.
  4. Another podcast episode that made me feel less alone on my acne journey, was Emma Chamberlain's podcast Anything Goes. In the episode 'acne', Emma talks very candidly about how difficult she found having acne in the public eye.  Emma is incredibly honest about her experience, how it made her feel and how it affected her content and how she showed up in the world. It was reassuring to hear that even celebrities, who work with professional make up artists, can feel insecure in their skin. It's also a good reminder that it is perfectly normal for acne to affect your work and relationships with others, and hence its all the more important to be extra compassionate with yourself on your skin journey.
  5. Alex Earle has been all over the internet recently. The TikTok star has spoken openly about her experiences with acne and Accutane several times, and regularly speaks out about the fact that images on social media do not represent real life. Alex's "brand" on social media is that of a TikTok 'It-Girl', so it's nice to see her be so open about her skin struggles. Like many other people, Alex has still not found a solution to clearing her acne. It is a nice reminder that clearing acne can be a challenge, even for celebrities with countless resources at their disposal.
